Helpful Cocktail Tips

Pickle Juice?

Save that dill pickle juice!  Think Bloody Mary's, Vodka on the rocks, Gin martinis?  Drop a few cut carrot sticks, celery stalks, cauliflowerettes, cherry tomatoes into the pickle juice and let set for a couple of days....Shelled hard boiled eggs? Instant deliciousness to eat or garnish cocktails!

Be ready, Just in Case!

Cocktail/Pool Party?

Of course, within your invite, you ask your friends to remember to bring towels and sunscreen. But just in case, run the dollar store and pick up a few inexpensive beach towels and generic medium spf leveled sunscreen.  Your friends will thank you and so will those expensive Ralph Lauren bath towels safely tucked away in your bathroom closet!

An Added Touch!              Fun Party Straws!

Go online or check your local party store for fun drinking straws like the ones pictured below.  Those fun but annoying little umbrellas along with the straw that is often removed before the first sip?  How about a straw that goes right through the umbrella!

Pool Noodle Flowers

Really enhance your pool with a few pool noodle petals. Find flower shaped pool noodles at your local Dollar Store, and then cut them with a knife. And, in less than 10 seconds, you have beautiful, affordable pool decorations!  HINT!  Find votice candles (small pillars), tightly fit them into the center of each pool petal flower and light giving you a beautiful reflective ambiance floating in your pool at night!

     Tell Your Guest

Where To Go!...Be Nice!

If you are having a backyard or pool party and don't want a stream of guests coming and going though your home, make a fun sign using your party's theme to direct them to the party!  If your party is later in the day and or at night, don't forget to light up the sign using a flashlight, candle(s) or mini twinkle lights!

 Beach Ball Garland

You can buy mini inflatable beach balls or make them on your own for this simple, but stellar garland. All you need is a little paint, styrofoam balls and string!.....Hint, Buy them!  lol

 Balloons in the Pool

Make your pool extra colorful and fun by throwing balloons into the mix! It’s a super fun and affordable idea that’ll get guests rushing for more water play, but with a twist!  Inside a few of the balloons, have a small note of some kind letting whomever has picked a prize balloon know that they have won a prize!  Bottle of wine or liquor, gift card to Starbucks that kind of thing!  And btw.....even deflated balloons will float on water, but take a quick perusal of your pool to make sure there are none left in the water to cause problems with your skimmer, pool cleaner.

Use a Misto Spray Bottle to Mimic a Rinsing Technique.

It’s quicker to spray your spirit from the Misto bottle into a glass than it is to pour a tiny amount in, coat the inside of the glass, then dump the excess, says Peters. This also eliminates waste “and will extend the life of a bottle three to four times longer than if you use a traditional rinsing technique.”

What’s more, the spray rinse can be a beautiful and interesting part of your drink presentation, Peters notes. “Spraying vermouth or absinthe into a glass in front of your guests really piques their interest and can start a dialog that will make for a unique experience that can be quite memorable.”

19 SIMPLE SYRUPS FOR EVERYTHING

Don't Be Embarrassed!    You Are Not a Pro!

But you can mix like one!

Head to the liquor store, book store or order online. A quick reference cocktail book with instructions on how to make the perfect cocktail, any cocktail, for your guests!

Swanky Citrus Twists

To make these swanky citrus twists all you need is a super sharp paring knife and some nimble fingers. Start peeling the rind in a circular motion around your fruit until you have a long strip. Rub the rind on the rim of your glass to add some zesty flavor. Now twist the citrus rind around your finger, or a skewer for tighter spirals, remove carefully, et voilà.

          Don't Get Muddled            by Muddling!

With spring finally taking hold across most of North America, drinkers are turning their attention once again to warm-weather cocktails: drinks that quench the thirst and cool the body that require :muddled herbs, citruses, herbs and more! Contemplate your muddler. You can use a variety of items to muddle a drink; there's no actual need to go out and buy a muddler. The handle of a rolling pin will do in a pinch. If you do buy a muddler, be careful what you buy. You want a muddler that has not been varnished or lacquered. The varnish on a muddler will eventually wear off, and where will it wind up?  In your cocktail. Yuck.  So choose a muddler made of unvarnished wood. Other types are made of stainless steel with a plastic or hard-rubber muddling base, and those are fine too. (But avoid the type with teeth on the end; they're great for muddling the juice and oils from fruit, but they can cause you to shred the leaves of mint and other herbs.)

The Right Way to Muddle

Choose a sturdy mixing glass, a pint glass, or a shaker tin. If you choose a thin-walled glass, you risk breaking or chipping the glass with your muddler.

Place the leaves for instance, into the bottom of the glass. Add sugar, pieces of fruit, or whatever else the recipe calls for.

Place the muddler in the glass. Press down with it lightly on the leaves and give a few gentle twists. If there's also fruit in the glass, you should see juice squirting out from the flesh.

When your kitchen smells minty (or basil-y or thyme-y or herby or fruity), you're done.

Bar Spill Matt

No matter where you live, many of you/us, have a bar set up of some kind.  Using a bar spill matt will do two things for you.  Keep your bar surface protected and help keep it clean from cocktail spills. Think of all those vulnerable surfaces out there...tiki hut bars in Florida to hand rubbed and varnished mahogany bars in the North. If your bar could talk, it would thank you for using a versatile bar mat to help avoid spills and protect it’s delicate surface!  Clean up is a snap, hose it down, rinse it down or throw it into the upper rack of the dishwasher...depending on its size, by the way, of which there are many. Check it out at a local restaurant supply store on online and purchase the one that is perfect for you!

Pineapple Leaves?

Ask your Grocer!

With so many delicious fruity cocktails enjoyed by all of us this time of year, how can we possibly garnish all of them with the leaves off one pineapple especially when you are having friends over or a cocktail party?  Head to your local grocer and ask if they can give you the tops to the the pineapples they trim up and put into plastic containers to sell!  They throw them away so why not ask!  Almost any fruity drink whether is has pineapple in it or not looks impressive with three pineapple leaves woven onto a toothpick and sitting on the edge of the glass!

Use Tongs!

Set a good example and use tongs when serving ice for your friends and family. I know you have impeccably clean hands, but resist the temptation to dig into the ice bucket to fill your guests glass with ice for their cocktail....Now imagine if you don't and "someone" else follows suit....ummm, do you know where their hands have been and or how clean they are???   Nuff said partner!

Use Fresh Fruit and Citus Juices!

With summer cocktails come recipes that include lots of fruit and citrus juices...For goodness sake, use fresh.  Buy a simple manual or electric juicer and squeeze away for the best flavor ever. Now, don't email us saying.."How do I juice a pineapple or watermelon on that little juicer" We know what we will want to say, but we will smile and just sigh LOL!

Don't Ruin that Manicure!

Be prepared to open a ton of beer cans.  Have one of these bad boys handy at your cocktail party for yourself and/or guests!

Cause a Stir

One of the basic rules of mixology is that anything clear gets stirred; if it ain’t clear, shake it. The former seems easy enough, right? Not so, says Morgenthaler: “It takes a lot of practice to become proficient with a bar spoon, and most nonprofessionals have a difficult time getting it right.” A simple solution for the bar spoon–challenged is to use a plastic chopstick for exactly 30 seconds. No more, no less. But whatever you do, don’t try to stir and chew gum at the same time. You might hurt yourself.

BYOC!

Bring Your Own Cocktails!  Think about it.  Have a Pitcher Party asking your guests to bring a pitcher of their favorite cocktails already mixed just waiting to be iced and poured! What a great way for all your guests to try something new and or something familiar but with a twist that the "bringer" brought  lol  Everyone has their take on a classic cocktail or a new creation they came up with on their very own! Now, with that being said, you better have some fantastic eats for your guests and don't forget some kind of delicious summery dessert!

Light The Way!

Create a lit pathway to your party, around your party or grouped just for aesthetics!  Whether on grass or a flat surface, use sprinkler doughnuts to hold candles  creating the pathway or special effect at night! Relatively inexpensive and totally effective!

Practice Makes Perfect

Before you have your cocktail party, practice that signature cocktail you have decided to serve. You know what tastes good, so mix as directed and serve it up as you would for your guests, garnished and all.  Make adjustments to make the cocktail exactly as you want it.  There is nothing worse than going through the production of creating and talking to your guests about this fabulous signature cocktail if it tastes like some muddy backwater concoction!  Practice, adjust, perfect (the verb)!

Keep It Organized

Just a simple thing that will benefit you and your guests without much thought put into it.  Depending on how big your party is, have a cooler for each different kind beer so your guests don't have to dig half way to China or excavate half the ice looking for their favorite beer...or, line your beers up (group) them together so that there is a section for each kind of beer.  Your guest will see their favorite immediately and you can quickly do a refill with just a glance.

Will, work, but not so much.

Much easier for your Guests and Yourslef!

How Do You Know if You Like it Until You Try it?

Check with your local liquor stores for tasting events.   I know that World Market and Total Wine and More have wine and liquor tastings.  Give them a call or stop in and ask if they have any upcoming events.  There are some bars and restaurants that serve fights of different things...beers, wines, vodkas, whiskey, scotch and more...try that as well.  You'll not only have a fun time with friends and meet new people, but you will become more familiar with the differences and learn your preferences in many things that pour out of a bottle!

Booze in a Block!

Find empty 1, 2 and 3 liter plastic bottles, either from your own use or put the word out to family, friends and neighbors that you are collecting them!  Cut the top of the plastic bottle at shoulder height of the bottle. (where the neck of the bottle starts to widen).  Place the bottle in an appropriate sized plastic bottle, fill with water and freeze till rock hard and clear.  Using Distilled water will help with the clarity.  Make two or three of each size ice blocks and keep in the freezer until your party.  As the ice melts down to almost nothing, bring another out of the freezer and keep the party going!  Using 1, 2 and 3 liter sized bottles, and even square paper milk containers works well making it look artistic and fun!   If you really want to show off, have some battery operated twinkle lights working right behind or among the grouping of bottles!

Fat Washing

Fat-washing: it might sound like a process for getting rid of bacon grease on your shirt, but it's actually a clever cocktail technique that adds savory flavor to spirits. To fat-wash your alcohol, you just add a liquid like sesame oil or melted butter to a spirit at room temperature. Let it sit for a few hours, then chill everything in the fridge or freezer until the fat solidifies and can easily be skimmed off. The spirit retains the flavors of the fat even after you've done the skimming.  Imagine bacon infused Bourbon!!!

How to Fat Wash Alcohol

Ingredients

4 oz strong tasting fat or 8 oz for less strong fats

1 bottle (750ml) of spirit such as bourbon, gin, vodka

Equipment

pan (for melting non liquid fat, or cooking bacon rashers)

wide mouth glass jar

fine strainer

cheesecloth

coffee filter

Method

If using non liquid fat such as bacon fat, heat a fry pan and cook the bacon until crisp and the fat has rendered. Remove the cooked bacon and once it has cooled down, pour the liquid fat into a glass jar. Add the spirit, put the lid on the jar and give it a hard shake. Leave it at room temperature for about 4 to 5 hours for the flavors to infuse then put the jar in the freezer overnight.

The next day, the fat would have solidified on top of the spirit. Using a knife, make a hole through the congealed fat and pour the spirit through a fine strainer lined with a cheesecloth. If required, fine strain again through a coffee filter to remove any left over solids.

Keep it Cool(d)!

At most outdoor parties we use Solo type plastic cups instead of glasses which makes perfect sense. Do your guests a favor and buy a little larger styrofoam cups, just big enough that the solo cups you are going to use will fit in.  The will act as an insulator and keep your guests cocktails and drinks cooler, longer!

You’re Crushing it, Dude!

So you love a good mint julep, but can’t afford one of those fancy freezers that pulverizes frozen water. You can get perfectly crushed ice like they have in the fancy craft cocktail bars using a Cuisinart. All you have to do, is fill your food processor with ice cubes, pulse, pulse, pulse, and before you know it, you’ve got beautiful, granular, fluffy crushed ice. If you don’t have a Cuisinart/food processor, well, you should probably quit drinking and get a job LOL!

Use Big Ice Cubes

Talk about drinking like Don Draper (from Mad Men, always with a drink in his hand)! Not only do extra-large ice cubes make a drink look extra-impressive as you sip, but they melt much more slowly than regular ice cubes. This keeps your drink chilled and adds just the right touch of water, but without actually watering it down. Try using silicon molds from Tovolo, but you can also freeze large trays of ice and chisel yourself a big chunk.

A Little Help for the Help!

If you are going to go through the expense of hiring staff for your party, an excellent idea by the way, make sure you get your monies worth and here is just one simple way to do that.  Make sure all those beautiful cocktails that you or your bartender are making get seen!  Have your server carry the drink tray full of your colorful and well garnished cocktails, low, so that everyone can see!  This actually accomplishes several things.  Again, your guests can see all the beautiful cocktails, it may help a guest in a quandry about what to order or drink (they may get an idea from the tray) and last but just as important, a tray lower and closer to the core of the server is a much safer tray!  That bit about carrying a tray above the shoulder or head is for the movies!

Coconut Meat

Is that on aisle 5?

With so many delicious cocktails calling for coconut milk, coconut water and even coconut meat, you may be disappointed to find that "coconut meat" isn't often prepared and waiting for you in a nice little plastic container on aisle 5.   But, with a little patience and honestly, fun, follow the link below for step by step directions on how to "conquer the coconut"

https://www.wikihow.com/Hollow-Out-a-Coconut

Quick and Easy!

Down and Dirty!

Not Everything has to be a Huge Production

Make a trip to your grocers frozen foods section.  Look for frozen juices.  You maybe surprised if it has been a while since you opened that door, by the number of frozen juices and combination of juices, many directed for the use in making cocktails!  Pick your favorite flavors and check out.  On the way home, pick up a bottle of Rum and Vodka.  Get out that blender and add one can of frozen juice (or flavor combo) and two cans of your choice of Rum or Vodka.  Add ice, blend serve!

Change it UP!

Get rid of the plastic solo cups and step up your game by using some of Natures natural cups!  Think hallowed out pineapples and coconuts. Papaya, oranges and grapefruits and small melons.  How about bell peppers for Bloody Mary's and more?  Get creative and have fun with it!  I know your guests will!

Batching

Batching cocktails is a great way to make drinks for a (small) crowd. Choose one cocktail, maybe your signature drink or one you know that everyone will love, Cosmo's for instance.  Scale up the recipe, then mix up a jug and refrigerate. At party time, just add ice if needed, garnish and serve!  I know, simple right? But I bet you forget too your next party LOL!  and I like the sound of the word "Batching" :-)

If You are Going to Do It Right, do it RIGHT!

Install a dishwasher in your outdoor kitchen area...think of all the glasses you will be able to wash (and dishes too) without hauling them back and forth to your indoor kitchen. It not only will keep you patio area nice and clear of glasses that aren't stacked in a bin for all to see, but it will enable you to spend less time washing and sanitizing and more time mingling and engaging!  Go simple or all out, up to you.

This is One Thing That You Don't Want to do Ahead of Time!

Resist the urge to make your Blood Mary skewers ahead of time as well as preparing your lemon, lime, orange wheels and wedges ahead time.  Have all your beautifully delicious choices for your guests Bloody Mary skewers right there so they can create their own masterpiece! It's FUN.  Do a little research and have some outrageous items ready to go.  Did you know that within just a few minutes of slicing, citrus starts to oxidize and loose its fresh citrusy potency and flavor.  You might as well as squeeze the stuff out of the little plastic lime and lemon shaped bottles.  It's a private party so the number of guests is a controlling factor.  You have a few seconds to have social intercourse with your guest as you cut that perfect piece of fresh citrus for their drinks!

Tell Your Guests the Dress Code.

Nothing is worse than showing up to a party underdressed. Be explicit on or in your invitation whether guests should show up in cocktail attire or in casual clothing. If it’s a weeknight party you could keep things casual, leaving fancier dress for weekend or special occasion cocktail parties.

Deli Platter Anyone?

Not every gathering of friends has to be a "cocktail party"!  Some of the best parties or get togethers are impromptu.  Make a few calls....Hey, the weather is gorgeous, the pool water is the perfect temperature, come on over!"  That's all it takes...with one exception. Food. No worries call your local deli or grocer and order a deli platter, pick it up with what you need to go with (rolls etc.) and your done! No fuss no muss, just tons of fun.

Label Those Cups!

I know from my parties over the years, and I bet you can attest to this as well....Drink Cups.....Whos's Who's without having to go around and ask or even take a sip of each one to find yours!  Although neither of those ideas are bad because they get you to socialize, and loosen up a bit, not the best really for those "cooties"  LOL  Simple idea. Write directly on the cup with a contrasting, visible color marker or get labels!  I prefer labels because with perspiration and or pool water, the ink tends to run making a mess or completely disappearing all together.  Labels are much more decorative and the ink doesn't fade away nearly as fast!  Again, get creative and look for designs and colors that will help promote your party's theme!

Pool Safety

and Wine in a Box!

Two things I bet you never expected to be linked together!  Just a suggestion, but it does make sense.  Glass bottles and stone patios don't mix.  Besides, you may be pleasantly surprised.  I know that many vitners are using rubber stoppers instead of cork, and lined wine boxes to save on costs as well as reduce corkage...Both changes save on cost and improve on the loss of flavor due to corkage.

Here is a link to a list of the Best to Worst boxed wines!

https://www.oregonlive.com/wine/index.ssf/2017/11/45_boxed_wines_ranked_from_bes.html

Kumquats!

The next time you go to add a slice of citrus to a cocktail as a garnish, try a kumquat.

Kumquats look like miniature, usually oval oranges. They have a sour, citrus tang, and can even cross-breed with citrus fruit, but are sometimes classified as a separate genus. Strangest of all, the peel of the kumquat is sweet and delicious, creating a surprising clash of flavor when the fruit is eaten whole.

Create a Spectacle !

Create something that your Guests will remember! Bring in a Sushi Chef and have them create delicious delicacies to order, exactly to your guests specifications.  It's quite simple....when you head into your grocer next time, one that has a sushi shop, like most Publix's, talk to the man or woman behind the counter who is making up the sushi.  They more than likely will have a brochure that talks about an in home sushi party with suggested quantities and price points....When was the last time you went to a cocktail party and had sushi made to order just for you!

Worth Repeating!

Keep Your Food Bug Free!

When you go to set up your appetizers and snacks on the patio for your cocktail party by the pool, make sure to have your food covered to prevent pesky flies and more landing and taking a nibble or two using food umbrella nets. The are available almost everywhere this time of year and are very affordable and best of all, reusable many times over!  Don't you think that this is a better solution than those nasy hanging fly strips!  Yuck!

Instead of Hydrating....Dehydrate!

Buy all those delicious fruits and citruses in season right now, dehydrate them and use them for your cocktail garnishes!  You get several wonderful advantages by doing this.  You get that seasonal freshness anytime of year, the dehydrated flavor is more intense and flavorful and you can make them way ahead of any use if stored properly!

Here is a link to a chart on the "how to's" for dehydrating fruit

Cool Things Down!

Keep your friends, family and outdoor entertaining areas cool all summer long!  You can purchase cooling kits that will fit your existing fan, a fan and misting system combined and larger kits of high pressure misters.  The choice is your based on your application and needs. Starting at around $50.00 and up.  If you've ever been in Palm Springs  at 10 o'clock at night with a temperature of 104 degrees and the only thing that made it bearable were those wonderful misters?....you'll understand!

Flies.....Who Needs or Wants Them?

Flies are pesky pests. One of the reasons they are pesky is how difficult it is to get rid of them!  There are all kinds of home remedies having to do with bags of water, wine and or rotten fruit plastic wrapped in a dish, beer in a glass, hanging pest strips, fly paper, citronella candles and plants and of course the steady breeze from a near by fan.  If you can hang fly strips or lay down fly paper away from your guest and out of view, they work.  Citronella candles and tiki torches work as well while also providing some ambiance.  Placing a small dish on the table with quartered lemons stuck with whole cloves also deters the little buggers.  The secret to any of these remedies is to have them in place and set up well in advance of your party giving them time to do their job and  continuing through out the rest of your party.

A Pound is a Pound is a Pound

Is this not true? Think about shrimp.  I know that huge mondo big shrimp are impressive but they come with a price!  When your planning a cocktail or pool party, buy shrimp in the 16 to 20 count range.  They are still large enough to be appreciated, but several dollars less than larger counts and are just as delicious.  Imagine a bowl full of crushed ice with just a few big shrimp or a bowl full of crushed ice and a mountain of medium sized shrimp! BTW   Think BOGO at your local grocer or better yet, visit your local fish monger or seafood shop...Their prices are competitive and often less than supermarkets and more than likely, fresher!

Need 6 Blenders to Make All These Frozen Dinks?

No need!  Go to Wal-Mart or online and pick up a couple extra blender jars/pitchers.  It certainly is cheaper than buying 6 blenders and if one breaks you have a replacement!

Add Some Color, Shine and FUN!

Colorful stings of beads instantly add levity to any party!  Head to your dollar store, big box store or party store and pick up an assortment of beads and insist everyone of your guests wears them while they are at the party....It's an ice breaker and definitely creates a fun, party atmoshere! Theme your colors if you like..Red, White and Blue would be great for the 4th, but if you have another theme going on, pick what's best to enhance your theme!  If someone is found without their beads, come up with a "I dare you" challenge" or even something as simple and fun as having them get drinks for everyone at the party...Instant waiter, but just for one round!

DRINK RESPONSIBLY!

Never Throw Away Your Left Over Coffee!

Find a great glass jar with a lid, at least a quart sized one, and pour any left over fresh coffee into and stick it in the fridge.  There are so many delicious summery coffee based/flavored cocktails out there and now you will be ready to go!  No fuss about having to stop and make a fresh pot of coffee....and then wait for it to cool down.  Heaven forbid you add hot coffe to an iced drink...can you say "diluted"?  By the way, coffee freezes really well so if you find that you jar is full but you don't want to throw it away quite yet, freeze it and have it as a back up to blend all kinds of frosty, slushy, freezy coffee cocktails!  Did I mention that coffee added to chocolate and more also makes a decadent part of a mole sauce!

AH HA!  What A Great Idea!

We have all been there, swimming or floating in the pool where the water feels so great with the temps up in the 90's...but then you think, I could use a snack.  Make up your mind, swim to the side to get out, find your towel, towel off and head to the snack table either inside or on the patio, grab your snack, eat it, and get back in the pool.........Do you see where I am going with this?  Have an inflatible boat loaded with ice and bowls full of delicioius snacks floating in the pool!  This way your guests don't need to get out of the pool, it keeps the pool deck and patio free of puddles and creates a really fun atmosphere!  Ok....how many have actually been to a party where your host did this?  The only limit is your imagination when it comes to the type of float you use!

DRINK RESPONSIBLY!

Icy Fruit!

Thank goodness it's not brain surgery!  Cut your favorite fruit and citrus into small pieces, like ice cube small.  Insert a piece of fruit or citrus into the ice cube tray cup and fill with water.  Remmeber, this is supposed to be ice so make sure to cut your fruits and citrus small enough to allow to be totally submerged in the water, but large enough so you guest knows what flavor ice is floating in their cocktail!  It looks beautiful and it certainly will taste beautiful!  Simple, cost effective and impressive!

Don't Underestimate the Power of a Chilled Cocktail Glass!

Keep a few glasses in your bar fridge or freezer or on ice ready to make a wonderfully chilled cocktail!  In warm weather particularly, that extra bit of "chill" goes a long way to make your cocktail extra delicious! Chilled glasses cool off your guests much sooner and believe me, they will notice and appreciate.  I often have a cooler filled with crushed ice right near the wash station so that a washed wet glass goes in up side down right into the ice for the next "chilled" cocktail.   You can also accomplish this by simply adding lots of ice and a little water to your glass and then dumping it out right before you make the cocktail....but in a party situation, having a few ready to go really makes life nice!

Don't Have Enough Glasses?

No probelm!  If you run to Target or Walmart you will definitely find drinking glasses...the only problem is that typically they are sold in a set with different sized glasses.  If you head to Ace Hardware they have in stock or can order rather quickly, 12/16 ounce mason jars with lids for $10.00.  Now that's a bargain! What's nice about this option is that you will have as many glasses as you need and all the same size. What about the lids??? Well, store them back in the box with the glasses till next time and you will be ready to put up several quarts of home preserves!  It creates a fun and casual party atmosphere but if that's not your thing, there is always the food store and plastic solo cups!

Double UP!

Quick tip to keep things cool.  Use two solo cups.  Wrap one with a napkin and slip it into the other solo cup....insulation! Make your cocktail in a solo cup and then slip it into a styrofoam cup of about the same size...insulation!

Recruit a Co-Host

Or Hire a Bartender

It can be difficult to meet and greet all your guests, make introductions, and converse with your guests if you also function as the bartender. For this reason, cocktail parties run much more smoothly if you enlist the help of a co-host. This person should be someone with whom you work well together such as your significant other, a family member, or a good friend. Alternately, you could hire a bartender for your cocktail party.

Don’t Forget a Cheese Board

Simple, easy and delicous.  You can purchase pre made cheese trays with a great assortment of cheeses, buy already cubed cheeses to set out, or head to the cheese counter and pick cheeses that are hard, soft, in between, yellow, white, and other colors and flavors...as your cheese person

Keep it simple.

Nuff said.  Enjoy your party and don't get bogged down in the kitchen!

Consider Food Placement.

Set it out where you guests can easily find it!

Use Fancy Cocktail Napkins.

They really make a difference not only in appearance but in touch...forget the folded up paper towels for once!

Have a Signature Cocktail.

Make sure it goes along with your party them and is seasonal.

Make a Killer Playlist.

Mix it up but keep it appropriate....unless that is your parties theme, leave the acid rock, head banging stuff out of the mix.

Personalized Drinking Cups!

Come up with a design that fits your party's theme, a saying that will remind your guests of you and or your party!  Think about a party favor that will be used over and over and over again!  One of the best ways to have another successful party is to have a great "first one". The idea is that when they take home their "party favor", every time they drink from it they will be reminded of you and your party extending the memory of their fun filled day! Next time you send out invites...they will rush to r.s.v.p. YES! Check them out online...I think you will find the right cup at the right price for you!

The Basic Bar Gear

You know what goes into the drinks, now you need the tools to mix them up. While you can get away with very few tools, you should consider these tools to be absolutely essential if you want to mix up a variety of great drinks:

Cocktail Shaker

Bar Spoon

Jigger (for measuring)

Strainer (if not built into your shaker)

Muddler (essential if you like Mojitos and Mint Juleps)

While you can get many great cocktail recipes from the internet, nothing beats a good book. And in this case, check out the internet, local book store and yes, even your local liquor store!
